We have had a number of train rides in the past. Our first in 1978 when my car quit and we went to st. Louis on our honeymoon and went down with friends then brought the Amtrak back to Springfield to come home.

He booked us into a hotel that said. Downtown.....hahaha, it was over two miles from downtown! Steel fence all around it and a empty nursery outside our window. In the. Middle of steel industry scrap metal yards. Lots of truck traffic and not somewhere to which you should go outside at night. Go figure!
Thursday morning we walked to the next street and took the city bus down to the Arch.

On our way up to the top of the arch.

Bud does not like small confined spaces. I thought he was going to have a fit.
Below are some of the views from the top.

Some gal offered to take our photo at the top.

As we were paying to see one of the two movies. There that we went to see a young man tapped Bud on the shoulder. He too was a Cubs fan and wanted to shake his hand. Later he ask if he could get a photo of the two of them he wanted to send it to his mother on Chica.

The entrance to the museum there at the arch.

He pretended he was plowing. (He did not touch the plow tho it looks like it)

Stare down with the steer.

We also took the oat ride done the river.

Here is the new bridge they are building. Interstate 70 will be routed across this bridge when done.

This old bridge was a double decker the top for cars and bottom for trains. They are taking the top off as it is only being used for trains now.

We even had a short carriage ride downtown. No photos tho.
Friday we took a cab down to Union Station.
Bud was amazed how big the fish were that were in the ponds there.

And he definitely had to feed them.

From there we walked over to the train station for our trip home that afternoon. Our only purchase at Union Station was a new pair of tennis she's for Bud and a little bit of fudge.
It was a nice little get away.
Didn't get to do a whole lot, but it was good to get away.
The train ride to and from was a good experice again.

sounds like you had a good time - maybe a better hotel would have made it nicer though :o) always fun to get away!
I always thought a train trip might be fun! Glad you got to get away! We all need that from time to time! 9I don't think I would want to go in the arch! It kinda scares me!) :)
