Canistota, South Dakota

This small town is about 40 miles west of Sioux Falls, South Dakota....
Yes, out in the middle of nowhere.

They have lots of motels.... one grocery/gas store, post office and a tavern.
This is their local grocery store.

The Ortman Hotel . Yes it is old, but some of the room they have remodeled and they are very comfortable. See the Cafe sign, and the window right above it? Well go up one more window and go left one window... it has a air conditioner in the window.. Yes that is my room. Room 314 which is my room for the week.

This is the same hotel that my younger sister was at when she learned to walk.....many moons ago.

(Sorry Martha---But it was a long, long time ago).

The hotel is attached to the clinic. Therefore, I do not have to go outside unless I choose to.

Baxas Bar and Grill is right across the street. They too have good food. When Bud was with me the last time we ate a lot of our meals there. Including our Thanksgiving dinner one year.

Most of the people here this week are Amish people. I would say they are from Indiana, Wisconsin and possibly Iowa. Just from looking at how they dress. Yes, it seems as tho every community has their own style of prayer veiling. And their hats are different.

Haven't really spoken to very many of them. They are not the most friendly group this time around.

And for once I do not see anybody that has been here before when I was here. That is surprising.

The gal who owns the Hotel said this is their first slow week, that they had been full in the past weeks.

From what she told me the other day when she called me to confirm that I actually wanted a room for the Friday night also I will be all alone up here on Friday night as they don't have any confirmed guests besides myself for that night as most people leave after their Friday treatment. Since my plane doesn't fly out till Saturday, I really do not want to sleep on the street, so yes it will be like a ghost town when all the out of towners leave. But that is okay.

This is quiet day number 2. I went downstairs this afternoon late and had dinner. Tonight the special was fish, shrimp, and some chicken, mashed or baked potatoes, gravy (2 different kinds) and corn along with the salad bar. Then I got a piece of pie for later... I believe I read that

tomorrow night's buffet will have turIkey on it since they are closed on Thanksgiving day.

I didn't sleep as much today as I did yesterday in the day time, so I am hoping that I shall be able to sleep all night tonight.
