After sitting behind a desk for 31 years 8 months 19 days....that is in this office.....I have been doing bookeeping since April 1970. First at Sims Lumber then at Tommy House Tire, then The Handley Partnership in St. Louis, then when we came back to Decatur and I was pregnat with Kim I started working here at Tica, Inc. when she was 5 weeks old.
So after all these years it is the time to hang it up and let the younger generation do the job.
Tuesday Dec. 27th Julie brought this most yummy cookie in to help me celebrate, even tho she has not been the happiest that I decided that I needed to hang it up and let her take over my job...Stress and all. :)
Mark and Bob were going out the front door, changing the sign out front.... I knew from the smiles and smirks they were giving me they were up to something.
They rounded it up to 32 years service.
I have seen lots of people come and go in my 30+ years here at Tica, Inc. Some years and days have been real good ones and others have been rather crappy. Just like any job anybody has ever had. Little did I know and imagine on April 10, 1980 that I would work at this place for so many years.
At the Christmas party this past year, they did acknowledge the fact that I was leaving and presented me with a IPad 2.... So Hopefully I shall be able to stay in touch via e-mail and face book with all the guys whom I have worked with these past years.
I shall miss the people I have worked with so closely for so many years. Julie has been with me for over 10 years probably closer to 17 years. And I have tried to teach her everything I could the past 6 months. She will do just fine!. Plus if she does have questions she can call me or the auditors office to help her make the correct decisions of whatever is facing her at that time.
RETIRED--- a number of people ask me if I am enjoying it.
My answer to this at this moment is that it is still too new for me to tell if I am enjoying it or not. I do NOT Miss the STRESS that I was under, Therefore, I feel better in that area.
Tomorrow morning, Bud and I leave for Florida to deliver Dawson's car to Treasure Island. Since he was not to fly earlier due to blood clots, we are driving two cars down. After we get the car delivered we plan on spending some time with my brother and wife in Sarasota. May go to Fort Meyer to see the big boss? well we just simply do not know what the next week has in store for us. When we leave there we plan to stop in Tenn. to see Bud's cousin, Jerry whom he has not seen in years.
So our first adventure in retirement is Florida...I have never been there. But am looking forward to a bit warmer weather then we have here.

Happy, happy Retirement to you, Verna. I envy the fact that you were able to retire. In this economy and with John's unexpected lay offs in the past, we are not sure if or when we can ever retire. I hope you and Bud thoroughly enjoy your time together. What a blessing. You will love Florida, especially the warm sunny weather. Enjoy!
Verna...congratulations on your retirement. You gave them so many years of faithful service!
I hope your trip will be an enjoyable time for you and Bud.
Love, Linda
Congratulations on the retirement. I think the thing I would fear most is what to do when I am home with my husband all day. I love him so but when he was out of work for four months he drove me crazy. Maybe the key is to have hobbies. Best of luck.
Happy retirement Verna. I too have retired. Did so last November. It is a 'little different' for me. Hope you enjoy your retirement as much as I am. I am new to blogging, just started last year, but I love it! BTW I live in Tasmania in Australia.
