Tomatoes/garden.

Yesterday I planted the tomato plants that I had. Kenny and JoLynn had given me some, but they didn't know what kind they were. I knew I wanted some Big Boys. So when in Arthur I got 4 Big Boy plants. When I got to planting them I discovered I had 9 plants total. If they all live and do good I will have tons of tomatoes this year.

I only covered the ones they gave me as they were not as big as the ones I bought. If they do well, we will surely have gotten our $1.48 monies worth.

I don't think I will buy the metal racks to make them stand up, after all there is enough room to let them spread out. There are a couple of voluntary potatoe plants that I did leave and some lettuce.

Below is the rhubarb that is next to the garden. It really looks a bit sick and I am not sure what I should do for it to make it healthy. I don't like it, but do know there are a few people I know who would like it.

Deisel fuel smell

When we got home last night I smelled fuel. Mess under the neighbors truck. Good thing I had her phone number. He talked Bud thru turning a valve off, but it still leaked some. They will be back tommarrow afternoon late.

Evening of fishing

Last night we went down to the back lake where Bud went fishing. I walked around the lake. Tried a bit of fishing but I didn't catch any.

We went to the front lake, and he caught a few up there too.

This was the catch of the night, he had fun reeling him in on his ulta lite crappie pole.

Elizabeth had brought Cooper down and he goy to touch a fish.

The reed around the lake.

One spot had some pretty flowers.

New batteries vs new pants

The batteries were old, they had to go

We set them on the ground just the way they were sitting in the golf cart.

Placing new ones in the same way the old ones were.

Finished product.

But guess we didn't set them far enough out. Yesterday I noticed that there were circles on the back of ?
Bud's new bib overalls. When I questioned him, yep he admitting in sitting down on the old batteries to tighten the nuts. Oops! I thought he knew better then that! You don't sit on batteries. They have acid in and on them. He had two holes, and a couple more spots at will soon be holes. No where they are I will not attempt to mend them, it would look awful. Guess I will need to order him more pair on line.

So not only will there be new batteries, but new pants to replace fairly new pants with holes on the rump.

The small quiet town

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

Only in a small town can a delivery truck park in the middle of the street for delivery.

The hotel hasn't changed. Years later it still looks the same.

Sitting in the lobby, you might be in the midst of school project on a treasure hunt.

The couple from Billings, Montana.

And the couple from Wisconsin, And the Amish lady for Ohio, who road train, bus and Amish taxi to get there.

Their local cemetery.

Plus sharing a laugh with Dr. Doug on the last morning there.

It was a full. Week!!! Very quiet, and like my daughter would say.....kinda boring!

Sertoma Butterfly House, Sioux Falls, SD

This noon I got into the car and headed out to the Vermillion Lake.

The campground play ground

Cabin #4, perhaps I should just have rented it and stayed out there.
From there I kept going east and south. A number of years ago Bud and I went to the butterfly house. Yes, that is where I ended up, in Sioux Falls at the butterfly house. I didn't remember that they had fish too.

The rock fish. Makes himself look like a rock. But he did move a bit, so I knew he was alive.

This made me remember when I had my fish tanks. Miss the fish but not the work that goes with it!

On into the butterfly room.

He did not look real, but he was eating watermelon.

Look close on the right tree just below the Y. They are sitting one on each side.

It was hard to catch them holding still.

I found that the flowers were very pretty also.

I even tried o sit still, and hoped I could catch one on my head or shoulders. Not today. There was a class of children who came through, and when they left, it was quiet and peaceful once more.

I met a young lady there who is doing. A internship at the zoo. She found this guy sitting still. These guys hardly ever sat down. She was from Ohio and a bit homesick and lonely. We had a very lovely visit together.

Even the greenery was pretty.

After leaving the butterfly house after enjoying it for almost two hours, I stopped by the food court at the mall and had a whopper with cheese meal, then on back to Canistota again. Not as warm as I would have liked today, but not a boring day for me either.

Missing Bob's Roast Beef

Years ago Decatur Had Bob's Roast Beef at the corner of Harrison and Main Street.  I visited it occasionally and would always have a roast beef platter.
When they closed their doors and it was torn down, I had not found another roast beef platter that compared at all.   UNTIL TODAY
This morning I started for South Dakota.  Went west on US 36 instead of going up north and catching the I80--which I knew would be a zoo on a Friday.  Bud had me go early so that I would not have to drive as many hours in one day.  Plus 36 doesn't have as many trucks.  It was still kinda nuts because it was raining part time and I could not use the cruise.   And face it, some people just don't know how to drive.  If you are going to pass me, get out there and pass, don't dilly dally around!

I drove as far as Cameron, Mo.  5 hours from home.  Stopped for gas, but didn't see the Super 8 like Bud told me there was there.  So I goggled it and called him.  I wasn't quiet far enough yet. It was past the I35 North exit.....but he told me to be sure to go to Ma and Pa Kettles and get myself a good meal.

Yep, they had a roast beef plate. And it matched Bob's Roast Beef plates....

Yes, I devoured it all. It was so yummy!

I had booked into the Super 8,  shucks I didn't bring my swim suit and they have a hot tub....but are right next door to Walmart...so I simply had to invest $15 for a new swim suit.....
Enjoyed the hot tub, but this is the first one I have ever been in that doesn't have steps to get into it.  I managed, but it was a challenge.
Have colored my hair and have been to the hot tub, now I think I shall do a bit of reading.  Bet I won't be awake very long this evening.  More driving tomorrow.

P.S. this is kinda far to drive for a good roast beef plate.:)

Today after I had been to town and done laundry I set up the toaster/oven that was given to me, whipped up a batch of banana nut muffins. I made 12 of them for Bud then made 6 berry muffins for me to take on my upcoming trip.

Yes, I baked them outside! So since today is Buds birthday. He doesn't have a Cake but muffins instead.

Happy 63rd birthday Bud:

He has been on the road today. But did call and say he was on his way home. Believe the birthday boy wants Monicals Pizza for dinner this evening.

Settle down Calm down

Settle down ---calm down. .. Now tell me slowly. What is the problem?

You what ? I dropped it in the sink. It fell down the drain. He was in a panic mode and he says. We must fix it even before he takes is shower. That no water would be able to go down the drain.

Yep. There it was. Sitting like this. About 6 inches from the top in this:

The tweezers were not long enough. I could see the little groves on the inside of the cap. So I went for my crochet hook. But it would only bring it up slightly then drop back down.
So, I knew I would have to be creative and Verna rig something:
I went for a large paper clip, and a pair of pliers.

I bent a tiny hook on one end and a bigger one on the other end. I needed to be able to hook it around my finger so I could hang on to it. I was able to pull it up to the edge then get ahold of it with the tweezers to remove it out of the drain. Ya for another Verna rig that did the job!

Often it seems that I have been told "that's another Verna rig". But this time I do believe he was grateful that I am able to do some of those Verna rigs and solve the problem.
