Ever been on top of a donkey?
Now who in their correct mind would get up on top of a donkey?
Well, Jesus did and so did I.
Back in the early 70's there was a church paper called "The Words of Cheer" and in the back there were people who wrote wanting pen pals.
I started writing to this girl, my age, in Canada.
After a lot of years writing letters, I decided I wanted to go to Canada to see her, but I didn't want to travel alone. My younger sister, Martha said she would go if her husband didn't mind.
She called him and he said she could go, and before he could call back and say no he didn't want her to go after all --- we were on the road.
While there the second time we met we went to this farm that had a donkey, and yes we were getting rides. My comment was, that when I got on him he would probably just be a stubborn mule and not move. You guess it, he had to be led so that I would get my turn riding.
The second time we went we took our niece along. Also Marthas husband went with us.
Across the years we were able to visit each other about 5 times.
I miss her since she is gone, but God took her home to a much better place then here on earth. But because of her friendship, I have become a much better person.
Bernice, love you and miss you.
Our first meeting in April 1973.

And my first and only donkey ride.

What an interesting post. Not so much about the donkey that is just plain funny, but actually meeting up with your pen pal is very cool. I had pen pals over the years, but never actually met any of them and lost touch a long time ago. What a special friendship you and Bernice had.
Meeting penpals is a special thing. Enjoyed your post! :)
Hi Verna,
I don't think I would ever ride a donkey,...but I enjoyed seeing the picture of you riding one,..
And I also enjoyed the story of you meeting your pen pal. I feel like it would be so much fun to meet some of my blog friends! We are sort of like "pen pals".
Blessings!

Verna, I was just thinking of pen pals tonight.I was thinking it would be a neat thing for oldest my daughter to do. Through my blog I've met people from different places but it is easy to not really connect. I am glad you were able to meet your pen pal. I'm sorry she passed away.
Warmly,
Tina
Are you wearing a dress on that donkey? I don't think I have ever heard that story or seen those pictures. I do remember one of our trips to OK to visit Bernice when she taught at that small country school. I know you miss her. She was a great lady!
What a sweet memory! I love you on a Donkey with no saddle and ARE you in a dres..for Heaven's sake! Owie!...thanks for the sharing...
You are so adventerous, #1-to go somewhere and meet someone that you have never met before and #2-to ride a donkey! What great pictures!
